Priceless Treasure

A non-assuming brown box arrived in the post recently somewhat tattered by shipping and inside was a short note giving a brief description of the contents.
"There had been an estate sale in the fall of one of my distant relatives, she had been moved to a nursing home and her immediate family decided to liquidate her possessions."

Lovingly wrapped in tissue paper was this Yo-Yo Quilt [4 1/2 X 6 1/2 feet].

Sadly, I do not know the history of the quilt...why it was made or who created it. But I have the record before me...a collection of fabrics, imperfect stitches, and wonky yo-yos. [A Lesson for us all...LABEL our Quilts, document for future generations.]

I Do Know that the quilt was well cared for there are no stains, no rips, no sign of wear..just fading due to the age of the fabrics/quilt. Which directs my thoughts to the title of this post..This quilt was a priceless treasure, loved and esteemed by the original owner and now that I have been entrusted with its care I am honored to have the responsibility.

I plan to do a bit of research trying to uncover more about this quilt. I am curious, as there are fabrics I recognize that are in other family treasures and it is possible that this was created by relatives.

  1. I wish I still had some of the old quilts my gr-grandmother, grandmother, and mother made. They never labeled anything, so your post is a great reminder to do that. Thanks for sharing and I hope you find out more about the quilt.

  2. I love the fabrics in the quilt. Thanks for the reminder about labels, I have a couple of quilts made by my Grandmothers that I need to label.
